Ipswich vs Aston Villa

Our prediction for this Premier League match:

Ipswich Town will look to put an end to their six-game winless run in all competitions when they take on Aston Villa in the Premier League round 6. The Tractor Boys are eager to escape the danger zone, but we believe that they should wait for their first win a bit more. As Harry Clarke has overcome his injury, Kieran McKenna should have a full squad to choose from against the Villans.

Meanwhile, the visitors came from behind to beat Wolverhampton 3-1 at the weekend and they are now on a quest to extend their winning run to four games. Aston Villa are more of a team than Ipswich Town and given their fine form in the national championship, we believe that there is a big value in betting on Unai Emery’s troops. After mixing the squad in the EFL Cup clash against Wycombe, the Spanish tactician should field the best possible side against the newcomers. The bad news for the visitors is that important midfielder John McGinn misses out with injury.

How the bookies view it: Villa to rule at Portman Road

Aston Villa are 19/20 favourites on WK777 to maintain their 100% record away from home in the Premier League this season. Alternatively, Emery’s side are 5/6 (WJPESO) to score two or more goals on Sunday – something that they have managed in six of their seven outings across all competitions this season.

A fourth straight draw involving Ipswich Town is trading at 27/10 (777PUB) while a maiden top-flight win of the campaign for the Tractor Boys can be backed at 14/5 (JILIMACAO).

Head to head: Tractor Boys tend to toil

The two teams came up against each other on six occasions during Aston Villa’s three year stint in the English Championship from 2016 to 2019, with Villa emerging victorious on three occasions, drawing twice and losing just once.

You have to go all the way back to March 2002 for the last Premier League meeting between the pair, which ended goalless – a repeat on Sunday is on offer at 13/1 (PHMACAO).

Ipswich vs Aston Villa Prediction

Aston Villa completed another Premier League comeback last Saturday, beating Wolves 3-1 in front of the home fans at Villa Park.

Ollie Watkins, Ezri Konsa, and Jhon Duran were the goal-scorers. The Lions thus celebrated their fourth win in five Premier League matches.

They backed it up with another success on Tuesday night, beating Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 on the road in the third round of the League Cup.

It was the fifth consecutive win in all competitions for Unai Emery’s men. They will be looking to keep the hot run of form going this weekend.

Villa travel to Portman Road to take on newly-promoted Ipswich Town in Matchday No 6 on Sunday afternoon.

Ipswich managed their third consecutive draw last Saturday. Sam Morsy was their hero as his equalizer came in the fifth minute of added time of the away tie against Southampton.

Ipswich hold the 17th place in the Premier League standings and they are yet to celebrate their maiden win in the top flight of English football this season.

The Tractor Boys are struggling to create in the final third. They’ve managed just three goals in the maiden five rounds of the competition.

The same can’t be said for Villa who bagged two or more goals in each of the previous five fixtures in all competitions.

The Lions also notched at least three goals in all but one of the previous four fixtures across competitions.

Last but not least, Villa have three wins and a draw in the last four head-to-head affairs against the Tractor Boys.

The away win is well worth backing at the 1.90 odds here while we also like in-form Ollie Watkins to score anytime at the 2.37 odds.

Watkins has notched three goals in his last two Premier League appearances.

Players to watch: Super sub Duran to deliver again?

All four of Jhon Duran’s Premier League goals this season have been scored as a substitute, so the Colombian merits consideration in the last goalscorer market at 13/2 on JILIPARK. This play would have proven profitable in five of Duran’s overall seven appearances this term, so a repeat here looks like a lively long shot to cheer on at a big price.

Ipswich midfielder Sam Morsy has been carded in three of his five Premier League appearances this season, and he is therefore amongst the favourites for a caution here at 23/10 on Ladbrokes.

Predicted line-ups

Kalvin Phillips missed Ipswich’s 1-1 draw with Southampton due to a thigh injury and the on-loan Manchester City midfielder could miss out again this weekend.

Aston Villa will be without captain John McGinn who suffered a hamstring injury in last weekend’s 3-1 win over Wolves.

Ipswich: Muric; Tuanzebe, O’Shea, Greaves, Davis; Morsy, Cajuste; Ogbene, Hutchinson, Szmodics; Delap

Aston Villa: Martínez; Bogarde, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Onana, Tielemans; Bailey, Rogers, Ramsey; Watkins
